Chhou dancers from West Bengal A group of Chhou dancers, including college students and farmers, from Barabazar in Purulia district of West Bengal was in Kolkata on Thursday to perform. People of the Maoist torned poorest district are compelled to leave their homes. They want to keep the flag of the old traditional dance flying, more so because it is gaining popularity. Purulia is one of the most backward districts in the country, with nearly 44 per cent of the population living below the poverty line and employment is a biggest challenge here. Harvesting paddy Paddy being winnowed at a thrashing floor near Palakkad in Kerala. Food Corporation of India and other state-owned agencies procured 9.77 million tonnes paddy as on 25th October down over 5 per cent from a year ago period,as per the Government data. Arrivals of paddyin the market, as of now, stood at 10.27 mt, a drop of about 11.7 per cent from the corresponding period last year. State procurement agencies had jointly bought 33.3 mt of grains last year.
